Framed pigment prints. Editions of 3 and sold individually. Signature on back. The End of Film is a series of abstract photographs produced in 2015 during an ongoing archive project. With digital taking over most of her work, McBride was determined to print something in her darkroom. She sifted lovingly through her black-and-white negatives, unable to decide what to print. She started looking at the film leaders, the beginning of the rolls where you pull out the strip to load a 35mm camera. Experimenting with these negative strips yielded a series of celluloid “landscapes.” Recently, while working on another project that also required sifting through her archives, she started scanning color negatives dating back to the 1980s. The resulting prints are abstracts composed of vibrant colors, like what you might see in a sunset.
