Oil on canvas. Signed and dated on reverse. The Rehearsal was part of a group show entitled Marilyn, From Anastasi to Weegee at the Sean Kelly Gallery in 2004. The exhibition brought together works in diverse media which addressed the popular American icon, Marilyn Monroe. Several artists reenact Marilyn poses commenting on how her image and identity can be deconstructed and manipulated to address a variety of social issues. This piece was in good company with work by Vik Muniz, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, William Anastasi, Robert Indiana, Cindy Sherman, Raymond Pettibon, Weegee, Robert Frank and Marcel Broodthaers.
