WRITTEN IN FIRE: TAPESTRIES AND WORKS ON PAPER FROM THE ESTATE OF JAN YOORS

Regeneration Furniture is pleased to present:
“Written In Fire: Tapestries and Works on Paper from the Estate of Jan Yoors”

The exhibition runs from November 11, 2011 to March 28, 2012. An opening reception will be held on November 11, from 6 to 8 pm. This is the artist’s third solo exhibition with Regeneration.

This exhibition includes four exceptional tapestries from the late artist’s oeuvre. Three of the works, hung in context, represent a secondary color palette of orange, green and purple. In each individual piece, hue is dramatically set against deep black. The abstract forms playfully engage positive and negative space, an effect enhanced by the works’ considerable scale. The largest, titled “Noh Pine”, is reminiscent of contours found in Japanese pictorialization.

We are especially pleased to showcase “Written in Fire” - the namesake of this exhibition. In this work, the flourish of sweeping lines is redolent of Indic script. Woven in simple red and black, it spans an impressive 24 feet in width.

There will be a special opportunity to learn more about the life and times of Jan Yoors in a panel discussion with family members Marianne and Kore Yoors. It will be an evening of storytelling - in words and pictures - about the incredible life of the artist. The family will discuss his inner world, as well as the extensive New York milieu in which he lived and worked. Marianne will elaborate on her specific contribution to the production of the tapestries. A formal announcement for this event will be sent shortly.

The work of Jan Yoors is currently on view in the “Crafting Modernism” exhibition at the Museum of Art and Design in New York. The artist’s work is featured on the cover of the exhibition catalogue, published by Abrahams. The artist also has a solo exhibition currently on view at Galerie Chevalier in Paris.

Jan Yoors's work has been exhibited at many galleries, museum, and institutions in the US and abroad, including the Montclair Museum of Art, Montclair, NJ, University of Texas Art Museum, Austin, TX, and the State Academy of Art and Design in St.Petersburg, Russia. Public collections include The Metropolitian Museum of Art in New York, The Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC, The Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC, and The Chicago Art Institute.
